| Lately I've really had a thing for the late
1920's-1930's era. I've had in mind some kind of storyline with
daddies and dames, guns, goods and all that jazz. I've some kind of
a sketchy plot involving two enemy gangs, illegal trade,
love/betrayal. Would anyone be interested in RPing? If so, I'll
scrape together the details. |

Welcome to Chicago, the city of opportunity...
If you know the right people, and places, and if you've got a nickel
to spare. The age of proper gents and ladies is spent. All thats
left are the slick streetcorner boys, with the shine of their
leather shoes against the dirt of pavement, and the dames lookin'
smart with their tempting sensuality. The jazz clubs are heard
everywhere you turn, and people flock there just like a snake
charmer to his poisonous prey. Better watch your step kid, be you
the boss, the undertone jazzman, the mysterious dame, or the weary
traveler.
This RPG takes place in Chicago, if you hadn't
already caught that. Its the Roarin' twenties Johnny, like a flame,
new, fresh, and all the folk livin' in this holy city react to it
differently. Some for better, some for worse. Theres a new gang in
town, tne "Guns of Lucifer", they work illegal trade of weaponry,
substances, do conartistry, that kind of deal. Their cover (which
doesn't do much, everyone knows who they are) is as a Jazz Band.
Now, theres been some rivalry between them and another band,
"Starstruck Dynamo Trio", they're interest is purely in music, but
they've gotten in a tangle with the band of evil angels ( no pun).
They wanted territory of the Jazz House called "Java Jazz", where
the dynamo's have been playing for years... and theres been trouble
between the rival bands, and the regulars, and employees of the Jazz
house.
I know its kind of creatively stifling to do this,
but i think for it to work people need to fit into these roles.
- There are the three of Dynamo:
- There are Four of
Guns:
- Unlimited miscellaneous characters (hot dames,
*cough*)within the city, employees of the jazzhouse, regulars who go
there, associates etc.
Now, not all positions of the band
need to be filled. But there ought to be at least one per category.
My character's the piano man of Dynamo, so theres one.
Join up people, I think it'll be fun.

| It was a typical evening at the Jazz house. Packed
like sardines in a can, just the way Bowen liked it. He loved the
energy, the livelyhood, the chaotic blend of laughter and
conversation. He sat casually at the piano, unattentive to the
melody from his fingertips, pausing every so often for a sip of gin
that resided in a small glass on top of the piano. He spotted Chloe
running about, serving drinks, with the occasional witty comment
that came complimentary. "Busy night." he mouthed in her direction,
a broad smile spread across his face. |

| Bowen seemed to be enjoying himself, and Jayden
could understand exactly why, playing a tune at Bowen's pace on his
Alto Sax, watching a few people on the floor dancing to the beat.
Not being able to afford a smile, he decided to take a few bars of
rest and downing some cold water in a glass on Bowen's piano. Going
back to his sax his began his tunes, checking the clock. Huh,
already nine? Time flies... he said looking at Bowen, ...when
you're having fun... |

Chloe was busy rushing from table to table. She
felt at home amid the hustle and bustle that was typical of the Java
Jazz's "rush hour". She slipped easily between the voices and
conversations that burbled about her like a brook, delivering a
drink here and an hors d'oevre there. Every so often she returned to
the bar to get a drink order or to simply have a quick conversation
with Adrian. This was one of those times; taking advantage of a
brief lull in customers, she slipped behind the counter and leaned
against the wall.
"Cripes, it's busy tonight, Adrian," she
sighed, holding her short hair up off of her neck in order to cool
down. |

"Pick up the pace Jay." Bowen said to his saxaphone
bandmate. The drummer smoothy transitioned to a faster beat, tap
tapping the snare, taking advantage of the bass. Suddenly Bo's
voice filled the air as he began to sing.
"Now, when my
baby smiles at me My thoughts are roaming to paradise And
when my baby smiles at me all day There's such a wonderful light
comes to her eyes..."
He paused and chuckled for a
moment, fingers still dancing on the ivory keys. "Now, how are you
lovely ladies and gentlemen this fine evenin'?!" He belted out. The
response was scattered applause, and inarticulate hoots of joy, and
laughter. "Thats what I thought!" Bo said.
He continued to
sing, "The kind of light that brings love The love that
brings real harmony I sigh, I cry, it's just a bit of heaven
When my baby smiles at me...mmmmm mmm..."

| Jayden picked up the pace, and as Bo played
marvellously, he found opportunity as he let the singing die. Taking
what seemed like a cue, changed gears and started a solo, starting
medium-fast and picking up the pace. His fingers moving like
lightning, feeling the rhythm, and letting it flow through him. As
he ended the solo on a Mid-range Treble D, he started back into the
flow of things again. He looked to Bo and nodded, grinning during a
rest note and then going back to
playing... |

| The song came to a conclusion, and Bowen slammed
the final chords down hard, looking rather fevered, and enjoying
himself. "Bravo my friends, Bravo." he exclaimed, giving Jayden a

motioning for Chloe to come over with another.
|
Title: Re:Chicago Post by: devils_angel on

Chloe saw Bowen's motion and decided to make him
wait a little.
Geez, you bring a guy a drink once before
he asks for it and he expects it every time, she thought,
shaking her head good-naturedly. She meandered around a little,
refilling a cup here and delivering an order there, until she felt
she'd made her point. She went back to the bar and filled two
glasses of water, which she delivered to the pair of musicians.
"Good set tonight," she told them as she did
so. |

making his way back over to the piano. A fine looking women tugged
at his sleeve as he walked by. "Hey there angel fingers, play

He sat down at the bench and rolled up his sleeves while he waited
for Chloe. |

Chloe had heard Bowen's question, but unfortunately
the crowd had swallowed her up before she could answer. Eventually
she worked her way back through the crowd to him.

"'Love' might be

"but yes, I can stand you. Not when you're being Mr. Angstchild,
though." She flicked him on the forehead. "Get over yourself and
play that damn piano already, you hear?" |
Title: Re:Chicago Post by: Ezekial on
September 6, 2004, 01:58:09 PM
"Yes Ma'am!" He said with a mock salute and his
trademarked boyish grin. He ran his fingers through his hair once
before giving her a wink, and turning to the crowd. "Alright!
Alright, I hear ya!" he hollered at them. "I've got something
specialf for you all tonight, I'd like to dedicate it to a friend of
mine. She's been workin' real hard to satisfy you fine folks this
evening, so listen well!" Applause and vocal enthusiasm came as a
response. "Go for it boy!" Someone called out. "Will do sir!" Bo
yelled back. He took a deep breath and began his piano solo.
"It's three o'clock in the morning, We've danced the
whole night thru, And daylight soon will be dawning, Just
one more waltz with you."
Bowen was another man with his
music. He had more talent then anyone could claim they'd seen in his
day. He had a passion for his instrument like no other. Some said he
had the voice of Gabriel himself. All he needed was to shine that
halo a bit.
"That melody so entrancing, Seems to be
made for us two, I could just keep right on dancing Forever,
dear, with you"
On that piano, his fingers were his
wings. |

Seeing his partner playing Jayden ran up the stage,
amid some chuckles, and opened his Soprano Sax case, snapping it on
and wetting the reed. After a few seconds he put it in, twisting the
two screws and starting smoothly, and hearing a bad note twisted the
top out a bit. Starting up again with that sweet Soprano jazz,
Jayden closed his eyes as he felt Bo's beat, adding his own melody
to the mix.
Something about his Sax sang to him, he could
always feel the beat better, always use his fingers as if they had a
mind of their own. Something twinged in the back of his head, and he
missed a beat because of it. Opening his eyes he saw the door swing
closed, and the one who had walked through. He missed another note,

| Bowen had taken notice of Jayden's concern. His
eyes darted away from the piano, and to the figure who'd walked in.
It was one of the Guns. A wave of irritation shot through his veins.
It wasn't the rat. He recognized it being one of his henchemen; a
stout, shriveled looking creature, with beady eyes, and what
appeared to be a burnmark lacing his jaw. He appeared to be up to no
good, edging his way across the room. He stuck his hand into his
coat, which made Bowen sit up straight, feeling the urge to become
defensive, but he revealed no weapon. Instead, he took out a camera,
and snapped his photograph before creeping back out from whence he
came. Bo shot Adrian a worried glance. |

Bo shrugged but smiled nonetheless. “’Night Chlo’,
Adrian. See you tomorrow Jay.” With that, he went out into the
night. The air was cold, but luckily, the streets weren’t empty. He
jogged home, cautiously glancing behind him every now and then to
make sure he wasn’t being followed. It wasn’t too long ago a friend
of his, Freddy by name, had been jumped by the Guns. They’d found
him in the river.
He saw his familiar shack of an apartment
ahead, and he ran up to the porch. He glanced around before putting
his keys in the door. The wooden door creaked slightly as he stepped
inside. He went up the narrow staircase, passing the other tenants
rooms, until he reached his own. He cautiously opened the door, and
turned on the lights that flickered for a moment before reaching
their brightness capacity. On the floor at his feet, was an
envelope. Bowen’s eyebrows furrowed with curiosity as he bent down
to pick it up. Inside was a photograph, of none other than himself.
Bowen shuddered as he saw a thick black ‘X’ through his face.

Chloe shrugged.
"Whatever," she said,
hoisting herself up to sit on the edge of the counter. While most of

finishing their drinks. They were almost done for the
night. |

background noise from a neighboring main street and the clicking of

| Bowen frantically shut the door, making sure he
heard all three locks 'click' to security, and searched the envelope
for any sign of who had left it, despite the fact he already knew.
He shrugged and took off his hat and coat, hanging them up near the
door. His apartment was small, decorated with few pieces of
furniture. An oak desk littered with papers: drawings, poetry,
music, photographs. An old patina rustic lamp that gave dim light
also resided in his ‘disorganized corner’. The rest of the apartment
was spotlessly clean. His iron frame bed was made, with white sheets
and a Tuscan red quilt. The ‘kitchen’ countertop had no piled
dishes, but rather, coffee cans, boxes of tea, as well as salt,
pepper, sugar containers neatly sorted. Above his desk, he’d tied a
laundry line string from one end of the room to another. On it,
using laundry clips he’d hung a multitude of interesting things a
paper mobile with photographs of his friends, acquaintances, things
that had simply caught his interest. Theater tickets, a medallion
he’d bought in Chinatown, and other treasures that were deserving of
display. Pale faced, he opened a drawer of his bureau, one that had
been stuffed with laundry clips. He took one and clipped the
frightening photograph and hung it with his things. He walked over
to the sink and splashed his face with cold water. With that, he
undressed and got ready to sleep. He reached into his nightstand,
and pulled out a small pistol. He stared at it for a minute before
stuffing it under his pillow, and going to sleep. “ I better tell
the guys tomorrow..”[/I] he thought to himself with regard to his
friends. |

Title: Re:Chicago Post by: Dark_Llama on

Adrian soon found himself in front of his own door,
which he unlocked and entered. Inside was dark, and so he flipped
the switch to turn on the lights. His bed was against the opposite
wall, unmade, and some clothing was strewn about. On his walls a
picture hung, a momento left behind by the previous owner of the
room. He emptied his pockets on a dresser top and went to his
personal safe, entered the combination and opened it up.
There was quite a lot of money inside, all of it from the
bar. He put the night's earnings inside and shut it, giving the dial
a spin to ensure it locked again. Tomorrow was pay day, so he'd need
to distribute some of that money to his
employees. |

Title: Re:Chicago Post by: Ezekial on
September 10, 2004, 07:00:45 PM
Bowen woke up in the stillness of Sunday morning
and paced his apartment, feeling a bit anxious. He washed his face
and dressed before taking down the photograph. He slipped it in his
coat by the door. He pulled back the curtin to get a glimpse of the
sky. It was a mesh of grey rainclouds. He smiled. He loved the rain.
He leaned on his bed to look at the old clock on his nightstand.
Its mechanical hands read half past seven. He reached for the gun
under his pillow, and stuck it in the waistline of his trousers.
" What to do... what to do...." he thought. Reaching for his
hat he pulled the brim of the fedora low and put on his coat. He
grabbed his black scarf and stuffed it in his pocket before walking
out the door towards Chloe's block.
The rain was falling
hard, and soaking into his clothes. "I'm gonna get soaked...
" he thought. "Oh well. He jogged down the streets, his
footsteps splashing on the pavement, until he made his way up the
stairs to her apartment dripping wet. He knocked lightly on the
door. "Chloe? You up yet?" |

"Close to eight?" Chloe repeated. She blinked and
scratched her head a few times. "Damn, I slept it. Yeah, sure, you
can come in." She stepped aside and opened the door a little wider,
closing it behind him as he entered. For a moment she felt
self-conscious as she remembered that she was only wearing an
undershirt and some underwear, but the feeling soon faded. It was
only Bowen, after all; he was one of her oldest friends. Besides,
he'd probably seen enough asses before hers. He was desensitized.
"You want breakfast?" she asked, heading towards her modest
kitchen. "I'll feed you, and you can tell me what's
up." |
Title: Re:Chicago Post by: Ezekial on
September 10, 2004, 09:36:54 PM
" Have I ever told you how much I love you?" he
said playfully. "Yeah sure, but I'm makin' the coffee. You never
make it strong enough. Umm..." he took the envelope out of his
pocket and held it with his teeth while slipping out of his
rainsoaked jacket. He hung it behind the door along with his hat.
His shirt had been soaked through. He unbuttoned it and hung it as
well, standing pale in a white tank top, the pistol still at his
waistline.
"Take a look at this," he said as he handed her
the envelope and walked past her into the kitchen. He put the gun on
the table, and reached into the cabinet for the
coffee. |

distractedly. |

be ready. |
Title: Re:Chicago Post by: devils_angel on

Chloe flipped the eggs over. She let them cook for
another minute before grabbing the plates and slipping two eggs onto
each one.
"Eat," she commanded, brandishing a plate at
Bowen. "Sorry I don't have any toast; I ran out of bread the other
night and haven't had time to do errands yet. I do have salt and
pepper, though." She punctuated this by sprinkling both aforemention
condiments liberally onto her eggs and digging
in. |

"Mmm.. good. Want me to - " he swallowed, "mmph...pick up groceries
for you? Paul hasn't been making me pay for anything lately." He
said referring to the owner of the store he worked at during the
day. "I took home a dozen eggs, two cases of sodawater, and a couple
boxes of those biscuits you like free of charge. I been workin' hard
for him." he said. |

"Throw in some OJ and you've got yourself a deal,"
Chloe said around a mouthful of eggs. She glanced at the clock; it
was around 20 past 8.
"I'm gonna have to head off to work in
about an hour and a half," she said, "but you're welcome to hang

want to head over to the Jazz, and I'll send someone over to come

in the motion of piano scales. |
Title: Re:Chicago Post by: devils_angel on

"Whatever works," Chloe said, eating some more
eggs. "Now finish your eggs. You're already challenging Adrian for
the most-anorexic-male award." She finished her eggs and wiped her
mouth.
"I gotta shower," she said, getting up from the table
and putting her dishes in the sink. "Finish eating and don't let
anyone in. I'll be out in fifteen
minutes." |
Title: Re:Chicago Post by: Ezekial on

"Grab a brush," Chloe suggested, always one to give
compliments. "Your hair looks like something a cat coughed up." She
smiled sweetly and went into the bathroom.
Since she was
performing that night, she turned the hot water all the way on and
used a little extra amount of her strawberry soap. She scrubbed her
hair and body and got out as soon as the hot water supply began to
wane. She toweled herself off and wrapped the towel around her body
before heading back into the bedroom. |
Title: Re:Chicago Post by: Ezekial on

| By the time she was done, Bowen had cleaned up; the
dishes washed and dried, and returned back where they belonged. He
knew his way around her apartment the same as she did his. He'd
washed up and combed his hair. He sat at the table sketching on a
corner of the newspaper, with cigarette smoke forming a halo above
his head. "Hey Chlo' can I borrow one of my shirts from you?" He
asked as he heard the water switched off. "I think mines still
damp." |
Title: Re:Chicago Post by: devils_angel on
September 11, 2004, 02:40:07 PM
"Sure," she said, adjusting her towel. "I'll grab
one for you when I come out." She closed the door and grabbed her
uniform-of-sorts: a white button-down shirt and a white skirt with a
blue flower pattern. Getting ready didn't take her long; after
dressing, she stuck a few bobby pins in her hair to keep it out of
her eyes, put on some makeup, and was ready. She grabbed the extra
shirt and tossed it to Bowen as she exited her room.
"Heads
up," she said. "Thanks for doing the
cleanup." |
Title: Re:Chicago Post by: Ezekial on

| "Wagh!" he cried out as she tossed the shirt. He'd
dropped the burning cigarette in his lap to catch the shirt. He
jumped up in a fumble, reaching to put it out before it set
something on fire, and scrambled to get the shirt off that had
landed partiall over his face. He succeeded, kind of... He stood
there panting, with a spot of ash on his pants, his hair mussed
again, and the shirt tightly clenched in hand. He looked at chloe
wide eyed, panting, with a laugh that sounded vaguely like a car
revving up. |
Title: Re:Chicago Post by: devils_angel on

Chloe stared at him for a moment, her expression
deadpan and her eyebrows raised.
"Spastic," she pronounced
him and began putting on her shoes. "Clean yourself up again, and

betting Adrian wouldn't mind some help setting up
shop." |
Title: Re:Chicago Post by: Ezekial on

| "Phtt!... schizo..." he retorted back at her
'spastic' comment. He buttoned up the shirt, and tucked it in, and
pulled up the black suspenders that hung from his belt. They made a
snapping sound as he let them rest on his shoulders. He returned the
pistol to the waistline of his trousers. And put his fingers through
his hair. And stood ready to go. "Its pourin' out there doll. Get
your coat." he said quietly. |
Title: Re:Chicago Post by: devils_angel on

"Yeah, yeah, okay, Dad," Chloe muttered. She
grabbed her trenchcoat and her purse and opened the door. Bowen was
right-- it was pouring. She smiled crookedly to herself and took a
deep breath of rain-scented air.
"Let's go," she
said. |
Title: Re:Chicago Post by: Ezekial on

before dropping them back in her pocket. He held on to his hat as he
looked to the sky. "Beautiful ain't it?" he said softly. "I love the
rain..." |
Title: Re:Chicago Post by: devils_angel on

Title: Re:Chicago Post by: Ezekial on

mischief smile before running for his life, the rain splashing with
each footstep. "Gotcha!" he said, racing ahead of
her. |
Title: Re:Chicago Post by: devils_angel on
September 11, 2004, 04:39:54 PM
"Oh, you better run!" Chloe yelled,
brandishing her purse and taking off like a woman possessed. Heels
weren't the best shoes to run in, but she'd had some practice in
them and was able to nearly catch up to him in a few minutes.
"Bowen Donaghue, you get your scrawny ass back here right
now!" she yelled as she chased him down the rainy
street. |
Title: Re:Chicago Post by: Ezekial on
September 11, 2004, 04:47:26 PM
| He grinned like a devil. "You'll have to catch me
you madwoman!" He yelled back with his coat flung open, trailing
behind him like a cape. Bowen noticed a few faces poking out the
windows of the street apartments. Some rolled their eyes as if to
say "Oh, its Bowen and Chloe, I figured as much." Others looked wide
eyed and bewildered. It was to them Bowen called out "GOOD
MOOOORNING!! PLEASE COME TO MY FUNERAL TOMORROW!" before laughing
hysterically. He ran hard, the hem of his pants completely drenched
by the time they were a block away from the Jazz house. Suddenly, a
gust of wind took his hat and sent it flying behind him in Chloe's
direction. "Damn it!" he cursed as he screeched to a
halt. |
Title: Re:Chicago Post by: devils_angel on

Title: Re:Chicago Post by: Ezekial on

covering the top of his head. His hair was already half drenched. He
made a grab for it but she pulled it away. He tried again and got
the same reaction until she held it behind her back and stuck her
tongue out at him. Bowen stopped for a minute, panting in
frustration, and then a slow, evil grin spread across his face. "You
little..." he charged at her and wrapped his arms around her waist
before lifting her in the air and began to spin around in circles.
"You dont come down until I get my hat!" he yelled at her, laughing
like a madman. |

Chloe stopped struggling. She smiled at Bowen, a
smile that showed a bit too many teeth to be really comforting.
Then she dropped his hat onto the street.
Reveling
in his look of shock, she said smugly, "Now, put me down, or you're
gonna get a high heel where it hurts." |

Chloe frowned.
"Don't call me that," she
said bluntly, pushing away from his chest in an effort to get down.
"You got your damn hat, so now let me down. I have to get to
work." |
Title: Re:Chicago Post by: Ezekial on
September 12, 2004, 11:42:19 PM
Bowen's smile faded immediately and released her,
looking a bit hurt.
"Oh..." he said quietly. "I'm sorry. I
didn't mean nothin'." he said looking like puppy who'd been kicked
too many times. He didn't look her in the eye as he bent to pick up
his hat. He shook as much of the water out of it as he could, but
the rain was still pouring, so it didn't accomplish anything. It was
worthless to put it on. His hair was already soaking wet. He held it
timidly, and stared at his feet. |

Chloe continued to lead Bowen by the arm until they
were safely under the Java Jazz's awning. She opened the door for

"Stop looking like a kicked
puppy already," she sighed. "I forgave you, like, five minutes ago.
Besides, with that long face you'll scare all our customers away."
She winked at him. |

Title: Re:Chicago Post by: Ezekial on
September 14, 2004, 07:28:38 PM
OOC: its more of a nightclub/jazzhouse than a bar,
but yeah, thats Java Jazz.
IC:Bowen's facial expression
stayed blank as he went inside. He wordlessly made his way over to
the piano, shedding off his coat and hat before sitting down and
beginning to play. It was an auditory madness theme, a strange blend
of jazz classical tragedy strung alive with minor chords and droning
bass. His body moved along with the piece, jerking occassionally as
he slammed down on the keyboard. He was transformed, as always, in
his music. |

the shop hasn't opened yet. That sound okay?
IC:
Chloe frowned.
"Okay, whatever," she said,
shrugging. "You can talk to me when you're good and ready." She took
off her trenchcoat and, holding it over one arm, headed towards the
back room reserved for employees only. Adrian was nowhere in sight
in the main room, so she figured he was back
there. |

do his job. I'll be back later this afternoon to set up for tonight.
If I dont show, this is why." he said tossing Adrian the envelope
he'd recieved the night before. "Might have to hire another

walking out the door. |

Adrian picked it up and opened it.
"Interesting... I don't see why he's so eager to go out
alone, its obvious someone's trying to get at him here."
He
walked over to the sink, and pulled a violin case out from
underneath it. He moved it closer to the spot he normally stood in
during business hours.
Just in case..
OOC:

Title: Re:Chicago Post by: Ezekial on

OOC: Har har
IC:Bowen pulled his coat around
him as he walked down the street. He felt the pistol digging into
his pelvic bone, and in a nervous response looked around for
anything suspicious. The city's people were just beginning to break
out of their shells in the light of morning. The stout man at the
barbershop stood sweeping the sidewalk outside the entrance. The
paperboys claimed their streetcorners at the crossroads.
Bo
walked down a few blocks before he reached Benson's, the small
grocery/convienient store in which he worked. Paul stood there just
turning the closed sign to open. He pulled the door open, and wiped
his feet on the mat. "Mornin' Paul." he said quitely.
"Morning it is, my boy." The older man said with a smile.
"Didn't think you saw daylight this early you devil." he said
affectionately, "...not sleepin' at night and lookin weary-eyed all
day. Why I doubt you've ever witnessed a chicago sunrise, if i may
be so bold to say." He chuckled.
"No Paul, I've seen one or
two." Bo replied as he hung up his coat and rolled up his
sleeves.
"Here, son." Paul tossed him an apron that wrapped
around the waist. Bo tied it in a knot before reaching to undo his
tie. "No, you can leave that on boy. Makes my employees look rather
respectable despite what riff raffs they may be. " He teased. Bo
half-smiled as he tightened the black tie up again.
Paul sat
at the register with a cup of coffee and began to shuffle with a
newspaper. He wordlessly pointed stacks of heavy crates in the
corner of the store, then proceeded to point to the empty shelves.
"Go on then." he said with a genuine smile. Bo nodded and bent to
lift the heavy boxes.
|
Title: Re:Chicago Post by: devils_angel on
September 18, 2004, 05:57:59 PM
Chloe shook her head.
"I dunno," she
replied. "He's in one of his moods, though. I do think that he can
take care of himself if need be. He probably just needs a little
space right now." She shrugged. "I think we pissed each other off a
little this morning, so maybe he just needs to get it out of his
system. He'll probably be back to normal by the time he comes
back." |
Title: Re:Chicago Post by: Ezekial on
September 18, 2004, 06:08:08 PM
Bo popped open the crates with a crowbar and began
unloading the heavy canned goods, and began to shelve them. He'd
been at it for two hours before Paul mentioned something.
"Hey Bo, one 'a them Gun fellas come by looking for you.
What you up to with them bad folk."
Bowen shrugged. "I had a
run-in with the Rat himself while back. After what happened to Fred.
He must see me as some kind of threat. They want me dead I presume."
He said blankly.
Paul shook his head and sighed. "My my..."
he coughed. "The times are changin'."
"Oof!" Bo exclaimed as
he hauled one of the crates. "Hey Paul, think I could take home some
groceries today? I'll wash the windows again." he offered.
"Sure thing, son. " Paul responded.
" Good. I'll
drop them off at Chloes before I head over to the Jazz tonight.
" he thought. |
Title: Re:Chicago Post by: Dark_Llama on
September 18, 2004, 10:40:30 PM
Adrian unlocked the register, and placed his day's
worth of money inside.
"Hey, girl, don't forget to remind me
to pay you tonight. All that overtime you've been working has really
added up; my pocket's gonna be quite emtpy when I go
home." |
Title: Re:Chicago Post by: devils_angel on
September 23, 2004, 11:53:02 AM

Title: Re:Chicago Post by: Dark_Llama on

"I don't remember how it

September 24, 2004, 10:34:52 PM
Chloe grinned crookedly at him.
"Okay; I'll

watch, she noticed that it was nearly 10 am. "We oughta hurry. It's
almost opening time." |
Title: Re:Chicago Post by: Dark_Llama on
September 24, 2004, 10:53:21 PM
Adrian turned and opened a cabinent. Inside were a
dozen of the same exact towels. He took one out, unfolded it, and
threw it onto his shoulder.
"All
ready?" |
Title: Re:Chicago Post by: devils_angel on
September 24, 2004, 11:14:40 PM
"Almost, almost," Chloe replied. She grabbed her
apron and tied it around her middle. She'd already taken the chairs
down off the tabletops, so everything was ready.
"Okay," she
said, walking around behind the counter again. She hoisted herself
up to sit on it again-- there wouldn't be a rush of customers for a
while, and those who came in the morning knew them well enough not
to be bothered by her actions-- and kicked her feet slightly.
"Ready when you are, boss." |
Title: Re:Chicago Post by: Dark_Llama on
September 24, 2004, 11:16:45 PM
He filled her a glass of water and set it down next

"Eh, I'll go unlock the
door in 5." |
Title: Re:Chicago Post by: devils_angel on
September 24, 2004, 11:51:31 PM
"Thanks." Chloe picked up her glass of water and
sipped it. She frowned at the slight lipstick stains she left on the
clear rim, but she shrugged it off. It wasn't like she wasn't going
to reapply it later, anyhow. She leaned back on the counter and,
enjoying the feel of the cool wood against her back, slid all the
way down until she was stretched out on the countertop.
"Ah..." she sighed. "Adrian, I don't think I'm gonna work
today. Think I'll just sleep here on your counter
instead." |
Title: Re:Chicago Post by: Dark_Llama on

her.
"I don't think any customers, nor I, would
mind." |
Title: Re:Chicago Post by: devils_angel on
September 24, 2004, 11:55:10 PM
Chloe raised an eyebrow.
"I'm not quite
sure I want to know what you mean by that, Adrian," she quipped,
winking at him. Reluctantly, she pulled herself back up into a
sitting position. "Really, I'd've thought you'd be sad at the
prospect of losing a waitress tonight." |

door and unlocked it, but kept the blinds half closed to keep the
hot sunlight out. |

| Chloe wasn't sure exactly what to say to his
ambiguous comment, so she stayed silent. After an awkward moment,
she slid off the counter and walked over to the door. She peered
outside at the beginnings of sunlight and remarked, "Guess it
cleared up. Looks like it's gonna rain again later,
though..." |

"Yeah, I suppose so." |

"Yyyyyup," Chloe remarked. The awkward moment from
a few minutes earlier came back for an extended visit. She winced as
the silence between them was practically elevated to an art form.
"Soooo...umm...cows," she suggested, desperate for anything
to break the silence. |

Ooookay. Mouth is apparently unable to handle awkward
silences. Find something for hands to do instead, her brain
instructed her. She reached underneath the bar, pulled out a few
shot glasses, and began to wipe them down with a nearby towel.
A customer could enter aaaaanytime now, she
thought. |

'Its after four Bo'." Paul hollered from the stock
room. "Ain't you playin' at the Jazz tonight?"
"Holy
Crikey!" he exclaimed as he glanced at the clock. He had to finish
up sweeping, get groceries, schelp them home, take a shower and be
at the jazz house before six. He did a rushed clean up around the
shop. He emptied the tip jar on the counter into his pockets, a
whole 52 cents. "Whoo... money." he said rather disappointedly. WIth
that, he hoarded some groceries into a crate, grabbing a couple
extra boxes of biscuits for Chloe. "Gotta jet Paul," he called out.
"I'll see you in the mornin'"
"Sure thing Bo!" he hollered
back. And with that, Bowen stepped out into the
rain. |
