Pirates of Aegir

Characters

Arienne

Using an attack Pic of her gills Name: Arienne (Air-e-en) River Nickname: Mayday (she always goes by this name) Age: 17 Likes: Parties, drinking, fighting, swimming, having fun Dislikes: Dry land (the sea is SO much better!), hangovers Appearance: Mayday is a girl of average height with a rather physically fit body which she gets from all the swimming and fightig she does. She has long, sun-bleached blonde hair she keeps tied back, orange eyes and a healthy golden glow to her skin. The only other obvious visible feature is she has a tattoo of a Moray Eel wrapped about her left ankle. When she's out looting, she wears a black, armored wetsuit, long-legged water socks, a dark sea-green cloak and a pair of goggles like a hairband to keep her hair out of her face that she always wears. Whenever Mayday isn't out terrorizing the shipping lanes, she usually dresses rather casually in a loose fitting vest or tunic over a shirt, a pair of deck-pants or shorts and sometimes a sweatshirt. Another side note, is that Mayday has the ability to breathe underwater. She has three sets of gills running along her back which allows her to breathe quite easily underwater. Personality: Mayday is a humorous, quirky girl that doesn't take life too seriously, spending most of her days relaxing, playing with or taking care of Kage, or partying with her crewmates. She enjoys swimming with Kage or by herself and is an excellent swimmer as she can swim like a fish. As a person, May is fairly laid back, living life day by day without to much concern for her future. She can be quite brash and full of herself at times, particularly on a raid. Not one to hold back, she tends to be in your face, telling you how she feels and what she thinks and has quite the mouth to do it. Her manners also leave a lot to be desired. Although she knows how to behave in a proper manner, she rarely does unless it suits her. Mayday has been fairly well educated, having been taught all the knowledge her crewmates and any hostages they've captured could tell. She knows the basics of how to survive at sea such as navigation, hunting and cooking, as well as more high learning such as economics and trade. She also seems to have an in born knowledge of fish that seems to have compiled on her own without any outside help. In general, Mayday is a brash, playful and humorous person. From Mayday's obvious reckless and dangerous lifestyle, she has become quite the proficient fighter, preferring fighting with either her weapons or with her own fists. History: Mayday was raised by a well-rounded family, who lived along the ocean shores. On her fourth birthday she recieved a gift, a battle orca named Kage. At the time, the Orca was still a baby. Later that night Mayday wandered out of her house and down to the ocean to play with her new pet. As she rode him further out to the ocean, she soon realized that she had ventured too far from shore. Before she could reach land a terrible storm hit, taking Mayday and Kage with it. A few days later, the now orphaned pair washed up on the shore of the rather remote Roughneck Isles populated primarily by roughnecks (go figure). The appearance of the battle orca on the island gathered the attention of the general populous, putting both the whale and it's companion at the center of gossip. Many less than savioury inhabitants tried to capture the whale or seperate it from Mayday all with dismal failure. Then a group of pirates appeared. Like the others, the pirates were only interested in Kage as a battle orca would be a tremendous asset in their looting but it became clear that the whale would not leave Mayday so they adopted them both. Within a week, Mayday and Kage were adopted by the band of pirates. They took MayDay and her rather valuable partner under their wing and taught her and trained her everything they knew. From combat to navigation to cooking and even how to act with good social graces. Even though Mayday did not take it all to heart, particularly mannerisms, she did absorbed it all. As Mayday grew, she became more competent, resourceful, cunning and ruthless. Most importantly though, she had developed a taste for thievery at sea, a hunger stronger than that of some of the other crew. By the age of 14 she joined the crew in ravaging the seaways, creating havoc a new amongst the shipping lanes wherever she went, eventually gaining herself a reputation amongst the very people she plundered. Many a ship's captain sent out a distress call whenever a larger battle orca was spotted swimming along side their ship, hence where her nickname was born... 'Mayday'. Currently, Mayday along with her what was now a full grown battle orca, has blossomed in skill and can easily hold her own against any seamen brave enough to fight her. Powers: Mayday doesn't use magic very often. She knows how to, but she mainly prefers to fight with her fists on her knives. When she does decide to use magic, she always uses her most powerful attack. (This is what her attack would appear as from on on-looker)"Mayday..." With her feet at shoulder width apart, her right foot ahead of her other, she points at her opponent and a dark green mass forms at her fingertip. "Leviathan..." she raises her left knee and spins on her right foot and raises her right arm and points her finger skyward. The green mass leaves a trail a it follows her fingertip around her, leaving a dark green spiral around Mayday. The green mass then forms into a sea serpent, hydra hybrid shape which looms a few stories over Mayday. "Retribution!" Mayday then points back out at her opponent. The dark green creature then strikes out at the opponent, much like jupiter's thunder dragon. The after afffects of the attack can severley injure an opponent, but it would be unlikely that it would kill them. Most likely it would blast them off their feet and give them a good beating, which could cause internal bruising or bleeding. ------------------------------

Nathrach

Name: Nathrach Race: Aethelindi Gender: Male Age: 38 Appearance: Nathrach stands out no matter where he is, mostly because his features, while humanoid, bear a strong resemblance to that of a reptile. His arms and feet end in long, cruel talons, whereas his head is shaped like that of a lizard's. His frame is thick, his arms, legs, and chest lined with the muscles of years of training. He's not terribly tall, standing at about 5'10", but is often seen as very imposing for his looks, if nothing else. His skin is scaly and green, with the exception of several black, runic tattoos covering his chest and head. History: Nathrach comes from a clan of Aethelindi that hails from the deepest bowels of the jungles imaginable. Often thought of as primitive, their society is actually rather advanced. More often than not they choose to remain away from the rest of the world's population because of their desire to hide their secrets from it. The Aethelindi live in large trees, making their homes in and around each one. Their magics stem from the wells of nature itself, often being able to call upon poisons to strike their foes down. Nathrach, however, has left all of that behind. Early in his life, he went out exploring, searching for what was beyond his jungle homeland. What he found captivated and enthralled him. The sea, in all it's glory, was a thing of beauty to Nathrach. He returned to his home, packed his things, and immediately left for the nearest sign of civilization, and a place to view the sea from always. What he found was a boat, and a pirate one at that. Due to his fear-inspiring looks, and his excellent combat training, the pirates immediately took him aboard as one of their crew. He now serves as the Senior-Man-At-Arms on Mayday's ship. He bears no love for humanity, and has found a strange pleasure in alleviating it of it's worldly possessions. He doesn't care what the pirates make him kill, steal, or raid. The sea is the only thing that matters to him. Equipment: Nathrach carries with him a large two-handed sword that he often puts to use slicing apart anything that thinks them his better. The armor he wears is meager, consisting of little more than two skulls upon his shoulders, and a small layer of chain mail over his chest and lower body. His scaly skin, however, provides a sizable portion of protection from many kinds of attacks, both physical and magical in nature. Strengths: Nathrach is an excellent fighter, having trained in the jungle wilds from a young age, and later upon the open seas. He has a large measure of knowledge about tactics and fighting, and uses his brute strength to overpower his enemies with fast, hard swipes from his massive sword. Weaknesses: Nathrach isn't terribly strong-willed. He generally does what he's told and doesn't create much fuss. He doesn't like extreme cold because he is cold-blooded and needs heat to thrive. You'll not often find Nathrach taking a swim in the open seas, though most often he's wishing he could do just that... ------------------------------

Iruka

Name: Iruka (ee-ruu-kah) Name Meaning: Dolphin Gender: Female Age: Unknown, but she looks to be around 18 or 19 Race: Siren/Mermaid (Will be explained in Appearance ^^) Appearance: About 5'6'' with red eyes and blueish waist length hair. Depending on if Iruka is in the water or not determines if she looks more like a mermaid or a siren. The picture below does a pretty good job of showing her appearance, but she rarely smiles for within her mouth are her razor sharp teeth. When she is out of the water her mermaid fin disappears leaving to human like legs and feet. Her skin is actually a blue color and she never really wears clothes since she spends most of her life in the sea. Personaility: Even though she is a creature who kills, she is very kind hearted in nature and is very pleasant. She doesn't have many friends as she is alone, but she is at one with the aquatic world and all its inhabitants. History: . Iruka was created by the gods, but Iruka does not know anything about her past, except for the fact of knowing what she is and that she has been alone in the sea. Iruka knows that she is a creature who lures sailors to their death, but she has never come across many others. She usually sings a sorrowful song and dreams of meeting new people to learn more about things out side of the water. Abilities: Other than just swiming very well she also has a hypnotizing voice where any male who hears it will be entranced. She can speak in a language no one understands but herself and the marine creatures. Weaknesses: Well for one she is not very stong and can easily be taken advantage of. She is very trusting because she does not know much. And that is about it for now. ------------------------------

Niondel

Name: Niondel Alunori Race: Tiefling (You can be other races other than human), which is a race that is very much humanoid except a little darker. They have had a demon (by force or not) impregnate a women in the family more than 5 generations back. (I know this is my second time using it but it's a good race for the class Class: Swashbuckler/Invisible Blade/Duelist A swashbuckler is essentially a character who relies on a single fast melee weapon, a invisible blade is a character who uses no armor and a knife relying on feinting and special manuevers in combat, a duelist is like a swashbuckler but better. All these classes use speed and intelligence as main features (hence they go well together and why he's been trained as all these). Age: 18 Height:5'9 Weight:120 pds Eye Color: Icey green Hair: white that is a few inches long Other Appearance: There are whip scars on his back Weapons: Two main fighting daggers that look like this And ten other dagger-like weapons in a knife vest that holds ten daggers in felco-ed sheathes that are literally upside down (dagger facing up, drops down). those look like this... Equipment: His knife vest, 10 daggers and 2 main combat daggers. He has a ring that can manifest a spyglass (10x) at will and a heavy silver chain that he wears around his neck with a two-sided mask made of onyx and pearl about the size of a quarter on it. The symbol is of Olidammara, the necklace grants him greater speed and awareness. Worships: Olidammara, God of Rogues Pirate Ship He's On/Length: Bowfin/2 years Personality: On the outside Niondel seems like your typical pirate. Rude, ruthless, and a greedy little bastard. Being a Tiefling helps that reputation. Inside he's sick of himself. After being captured to avoid letting his hometown take a beating of a lifetime and agreeing to fight for the pirates and become a pirate he swore they would pay. Part of his heart is demon, and sometimes it wishes to unleash. However Niondel knows he cannot allow this or else Olidammara would punish him himself. Last time he let his demon part of his heart take over in a fight he slaughtered two dozen sailors. That night he was tortured feeling the oceans beat against in a dream. He asked for atonement for his wrongdoings and has kept his demon side more or less underwraps. He longs to be set free and to kill the captain for making him fight mercenaries hired by merchants and such. History: He grew up not knowing a mother. His father always told him she died at his birth. His father was a surprisingly righteous man and a skilled knife fighter. But despite his father's strong will he died of leprosy when Niondel was 15. People laughed when they heard the story and despite the many fights Niondel started in his father's good name he was always defeated. Blaming himself for lack of faith in a god Niondel trained himself to be strong and turned to Olidammara: God of Rogues. The god seemed to take pity on his soul and lifted the worries from his heart. With the light heart he knew what he would do, follow the path Olidammara had for him and become the best knife fighter he could be and fight for his father's good name. But when he was 20, right when he was about to finish his training word came that the legendary Bowfin was coming to ravage his village. In his dismay he took a small boat and led it out to sea. Pretending to be an adolescent who wanted to be a pirate he told them the village had been raided two weeks earlier. The pirates did not believe him, but Olidammara intervened and created the illusion of a wrecked town burnt to the ground. Later when he was shown his room his dropped to his knees and thanked the God of Rogues for the saving of his town. For the next two years Niondel has been forced to fight and plunder. Where his fellow shipmates showed ruthlessness he showed mercy. It kills him inside to be doing harm to such innocent people. When he was showing off one day, Mayday seemed to grow jealous and challenged him to a knife fight. When Mayday seemed to be losing she seemed to call upon a water serpent. Under threat of death the crew swear she won, "Fair and Square" but Niondel knew better. He beccome even faster and learned how to detect magic in items. Since he's gained a few magic items to counteract his own unfamiliarity with it. Strengths Speed and intelligence and his skill with his daggers. He is said to have an IQ of over 200. Weaknesses Strength and Health. Though fast he's not strong and cannot do a lot of duking it out. He uses his intelligence to strike pinpoint locations. And though he's not sick, he isn't particularly heavy-framed and takes quite a bit of damage compared to some of the brutes on the Bowfin. Also if caught unaware he cannot directly parry very heavy blows (such as greatsword/greataxe blows) and has to more deflect parry or dodge them. ------------------------------

Kenda

Name: Kenda Pyralis Name Meaning: Child of clear, cool water; Of Fire Age: 26 Height: 6' 8" Occupation: Pirate. Ar! Description: This guy is perfect for his speed in the water. He has super long arms and legs, perfect for moving him quickly, allowing him to strap explosives or magic charms to enemy ships, rendering them useless, and leaving them open to assault by the Bowfin. WHen not blowing things up, he's maintaining the outer hull of the ship, easily swimming around it to repair holes/dents/etc. He has a dolphin, nicknamed Echo (so sue me). It helps him move faster if he needs to. Echo hangs out in the moonpool or his own little side tank near it. (or just out in the open ocean) Appearance: Obviously a tall figure, he's what one would call "lanky", and has an immense reach. In hand-to-hand combat, he's a formidable opponent, since he'll be able to reach you before you reach him. He usually just wears white pants, since he has to constantly go in and out of the water. The pants are close to tight, and his belt has a sheath for a 6-inch blade, for whatever he needs it for. Weaknesses: He's a little clumsy sometimes, as comes with being lanky. It's difficult to keep gunpowder dry while swimming through the water, so he can't simply blow any ship up on whim, in rough storms, it's almost impossible for him to lay explosives. When walking at normal pace (and he's not expecting anything) it's easy to throw him off-balance with a few kicks, but for the most part he has his "sea legs" ------------------------------

Sophia

Name: Sophia Inara, goes by Inara (Credence/Il’ Dyana) Gender: Female Race: Human Age: 18 Height: 5'6'’ Eye Color: Turquoise (varies black/red) Hair Color: Brown (varies black/red) Appearance: Inara is an attractive modestly sized woman at 5 foot 7 although she always looks smaller because she seems to always be hunched over. Inara has a slight body that lacks curves and gives her an overall boyish look. Her eyes are (usually) a beautiful sea blue/green and as deep as the ocean itself. Her hair (again usually) is a light chestnut brown that hangs down to her shoulders. Scars line the length of her body, especially her arms and chest (more on that in history.) These scars do little to detract from Inara’s overall appearance, but do hint at the internal conflict within her. When her other forms manifest, Inara tends to take on the physical and mental attributes oh whoever surfaces. So this means that with Credence comes pitch black hair and eyes, as well as pale skin, and a slight cloud of darkness that surrounds her. With Il’ Dyana comes crimson red hair and eyes, as well as the forming of fangs and a slight glow that encompasses her body as the temperature beneath her skin feels like it heats up several degrees. History: The story of Sophia Inara could not be told without first an introduction of the Archon, Credence and the Succubus, Il’Dyana. Ancient scripture tells the story of Credence, an angel who would descend from the upper heavens to guide the souls of martyrs who gave their lives for others and for heroic causes. She would battle the demons of hell to protect the souls of these newly fallen with a fervor rarely seen even amongst angels. Passed down through the oral traditions of heretics is also told the story of Il’ Dyana, one of the most successful succubi to have ever visited Aegir. As with most succubi, Il’ Dyana would stalk mortals in their sleep, luring them to hell through promises of material and carnal rewards. She found that the vices of power and lust were most effective in bringing down even the most seemingly chaste and incorruptible mortals, ensuring that they would serve in hell’s armies in their deaths. Many decades ago, a cult of monks unveiled prophesies told that a child would be born among the peasantry that would play a role in the great conflicts ahead that would determine the fate of the human race over the next century. And so the monks waited for that child to arise. Eventually the time came, and the moon, planets, and stars were all in alignment. The monks took the child and raised her to embrace her destiny and lead humanity toward a pleasant future. And indeed she fulfilled the prophesy by showing intellect and strength of will that was uncommon for her age. So although her life was cloistered, she lived pleasantly among the kindly monks. It did not take long for the divine to take notice of this special girl however. The forces of heaven sent down an agent to make sure that Sophia Inara would indeed fulfill her destiny and insure that good on Aegir reigned. The Demon Lords of the six hundred and sixty-sixth plane of hell reveled in the ambiguity of the prophesy itself, noting how the prophesy in fact didn’t specify what side Inara would in fact play. So they also sent an agent to make sure that Inara would lead the human race into a period of unmitigated chaos. The two agents left, and both arrived over the cradle of the young child, each hoping to nurse the child into maturity and toward their own ends. And it was above the cradle of the child that Credence and Il’ Dyana met. But instead of fighting as two dichotomies are bound to do, they talked to each other. You see, each and every creature of the planes are very interested in the nature of good and evil and it’s role in the shaping of humanity. Credence and Il’ Dyana realized that they were in fact two sides of the same coin. Although they were two vastly opposing sources, spiritually they were sisters. And instead of fighting they instead debated over humanity and it’s involvement with heaven and hell and which side the girl should fight for. This took place for several years, with each presenting their sides and the other presenting an equally valid counterclaim and so on. Eventually they realized that neither side was likely to win the debate, the girl was already nearly ten years old, and each agreed to each other that the girl was the one responsible for her fate. But secretly, neither side had been honest with the other, and instead of leaving the girl they attempted to possess the girl from within and give her suggestions from within. Upon meeting in her mind, the two began to fight for control of her. Unfortunately for the young Sophia, the two competing forces in her head shattered her sanity. Each was oblivious to the damage they did to the girl, continuing to do battle for years. Where had once been a happy normal girl was now a wrecked shadow of her former self, pulled toward two opposing extremes, disrupting the normal balance of good and evil within man. The monks didn’t know quite what to think, each one suspecting that the girl had a demon inside. She would speak in tongues, and the monks had to remove all sharp objects from her reach after one incident in which Sophia tried to cut the demons out of herself, producing scars she bears even today. Eventually the strain on the girls mind was far too much and she collapsed into a coma. The monks mourned for the child, putting her in the deepest bowels of their church, praying that she would some day awake in a sane state of mind. Credence and Il’ Dyana fought tooth and nail for every metaphysical inch of Inara’s mind for several more years. And yet both still ended up in an unchanging stalemate. But in this time something interesting happened to both angel and demon that had never been recorded before. They became trapped in the mind of the mortal. Credence slowly became sullen and depressed, having spent too much time away from the serenity of heaven. She became disenchanted with heaven’s idea that humans would one day be moral exemplar of goodness. Her flowing white robes turned black and slithery while her fair face became cold and pale. Il’ Dyana instead became frustrated by her static progress against her foe. She bubbled at the surface, desiring to feel something, anything, in the mind of the now catatonic teenager. Her once sensual body became to crack on the outside, spewing repressed urges in bursts of flame. Both Credence and Il’ Dyana stopped fighting, and started searching for a way out. This cease in tension finally eased Inara out of her coma. For the first time in seven years, Inara’s mind was clear of voices. The monks who had all but given up hope for the child rejoiced at her second coming, knowing that she had battled the forces of evil and had triumphed. Inara tried to come to grips with what had happened, tried to will herself back into normality, and had some success. Until the night her alter-egos surfaced again. Late one night, Inara rose from her sleep and walked about the monastery surveying the kind old monks. They had treated her so well, she thought, given her every provision even when they had thought her possessed by demons. Yet they had to live in a world ruled by misery and hate. It was all so unfair thought Inara. There was a better place then this, a place where kind men like this would be happier. Inara knew what she had to do. One of the kindlier old monks, the one who Inara had actually thought of as her father in her early years came into one of his fellow monks room that night after hearing a slight commotion in the room. When he came in he saw Inara, her hair and eyes blackened to obsidian standing over the bed of a monk with a bloody knife in hand. The kindly monk went to check what was wrong, but was instantly cut down by his adopted child. “I’m so sorry.” he heard before the life spilled from his neck. Inara went to each room, “releasing” each monk from this life one by one. Inara was able to come back to her senses and looked in horror as to what she did, but was quickly overtaken as another being surfaced. Her hair changed to crimson red, she grew slight fangs, and her skin seemed to boil beneath her flesh, actually ripping in some places exposing fire beneath. Inara looked around to the bodies around her and felt the anticipation surface beneath her. It was an urge that needed to be released. She took her knife and cut apart the monks around her, washing herself in their ichor in mindless glee. Her pent up frustration then exploded around her in a ball of flame that overtook the room, setting to light the entire cathedral. Inara managed to get out, this time finally having taken control, only to crumple in a fetal ball and cry herself to sleep on the streets. Inara wandered for a time, trying to come to terms with the angel and demon parts of her that surfaced on occasion. She found a place where she wouldn’t pose as much of a threat to people, an isolated place where she could find peace. The Sea. Entranced by the stories she heard from her youth of pirates, she decided to stowaway on a pirate ship, the Bowfin. Inara was eventually caught, but the pirate Mayday took pity on her and let her ride along the ship for a while at least. Inara took an instant liking to Mayday, and reveled in her stories of adventure at the high seas as well as her outgoing and pleasant demeanor. Mayday is also the only one among the crew who is not frightened by the duel aspects of Inara’s mind, as they randomly surface on occasion, although Inara has been able to exercise enough control to not endanger the crew. . . yet. But Inara knows it’s only by Mayday’s good graces that she is allowed to stay onboard the ship. Although Inara doesn’t embrace the pirate life of plundering, she has found her only real peace on the Bowfin at sea as well as with her sole actual possession, a shawm that she took from the monks who raised her. Although never learning how to play it by anyone, she manages to play it quite well. Inara has managed to detect an increasing polarization of her alter-egos within her. Each time they manifest, they gain further separation from each other. Without the balancing influence on each other, Inara can sense herself losing the control she has. She also feels her body being increasingly torn with each manifest, and somehow she can feel that if they were to pull apart from each other all together, they would separate into two bodies, killing her, and allowing them to sow havoc across the world. Personality: To call a girl like Inara bi-polar is an understatement along the lines of saying the sun is a little hot. Normally she is shy and mousy, only seeking the company of a very few select people. Also she is never fully convinced at any one time that she is in complete control of her body, so her self-esteem tends to be very low. When her other forms manifest, she seems to take the physical and mental traits of whoever surfaces. With Credence this brings a crippling depression with a desire with slight suicidal and homicidal tendencies. With Il’ Dyana this brings forth extreme mania and paranoia (and coupled with slight nymphomania, but Mayday has made sure to stop Il’ Dyana before she could do anything that Inara might regret.) If there is one thing that Inara is like always though, it is that she is intensely loyal to those who would have her, and if necessary she would sacrifice herself for the crew. Powers: When she is in control, Inara is a very weak warrior of any sort. She was trained by pacifist monks to live a life as non-combative as possible, and suffered a good portion of her life in a coma, so she has had very little time to build any sort of combat skills at all. She does train occasionally in swordsmanship with the crew, especially Mayday, but is no where near as proficient with blades as anyone else on the crew. However when her other two alter-egos manifest, it is a different story entirely. Beings of heaven and hell, Credence and Il’ Dyana are immensely powerful creatures, innately in tune with the use of magic. During the brief periods of time when either emerges from Inara’s psyche they are able to channel some amount of their power through the girl’s body. Credence has become a darkened shell of her former glory. She has embraced powers of suffering and darkness and intends to use these to the best of her abilities to help rid those around her of this miserable existence called life. Her magic rooted in cold and shadow. Il’ Dyana is a creature of pure passion and her powers are rooted in such. She will not stand by while any inaction is in place, and will do everything in her powers to get things “moving”. When Il’ Dyana manifests, her power is rooted in fire and desire. Were either to be released from her body entirely, their power would eclipse just about any being on Aegir. Inara Credence Il' Dyana ------------------------------
