This story originally was the "animated exploits of the author's friends" from a city in California about thirty miles from the border of Mexico. My group of buddies had many comical moments, I thought that drawing them up and posting them online for all to see would be fun. This comic began as a chronicle of things my friends and I did during high school in a city about 20 miles from the US-Mexico border. While we certainly had some comical moments, you couldn't count on them happening regularly
Just to make it more interesting, I swapped every character's gender. Most of the time the gender really didn't matter in the situations, but I also used it as a way of making myself think a little bit harder about the different characters; while they were based on my friends, they obviously weren't the same people.
Hoping to maintain a regular update schedule, with comic 6 I set the comic in the universe of Stargate, a motion picture and well-known show on Sci-Fi Channel. Check it out, buy their stuff, give them money!
If you are familiar with the universe of Stargate, you'll see that the comic rapidly deviates from the plot of the show. This lets me do what I'd like with my characters without having long-term plans ruined by a new episode killing off an SG-1 character I needed. The events in this comic take place after season 7 of Stargate: SG-1, so seasons 1-7 are used as backstory. Knowledge of Stargate or the events of those 7 seasons is not required to read North of the Border, as when introducing new ideas or objects in the comic I try to provide a brief explanation for them.
See the Wikipedia article for more information on the background of the Stargate universe, including the details of those earlier seasons.
